Since I’ve found photography a little over a year ago I have learned so many things in which I would like to share with you. These advice and lessons have made me become not only a better photographer but also a better human. Although 50 things are not enough, I hope that you will find them inspiring and rejuvenating to your life.

  1. Never do photography to become a superstar.
  2. Have fun and enjoy what you are shooting.
  3. Build relationships with potential photo buddies
  4. Keep your camera clean
  5. Find your own style of photography
  6. Seek out and learn to accept critique on your images
  7. Get inspiration from the work of other photographers
  8. Be bold
  9. Be confident
  10. Take selfportraits
  11. Pay attention to s-curves and lines
  12. Every shooting situation is different than you expect
  13. The best equipment is that what you have now
  14. Break the rules of photography knowingly
  15. Start a photoblog
  16. The eye moves to the point of contrast
  17. Accept praise and say “thank you”
  18. Everyone has to start small
  19. Post processing = Optimizing your image to the best result
  20. Always remember what brought you to photography
  21. Always turn around, sometimes the better image is behind you
  22. It’s who’s behind the camera, not the camera
  23. When in doubt – always shoot. Don’t be afraid to experiment
  24. Don’t be afraid of getting dirty
  25. Re-check your ISO-Settings
  26. Learn to enjoy beautiful moments when you don’t have a camera with you.
  27. Ask yourself: What do you want to express in your images?
  28. Search for a mentor
  29. Always have printing in mind when you post process your images.
  30. Provide for enough disc space for your photographs
