Yesterday afternoon I attended a free concert at the Mondavi Center. It was for a listening log. I read something about electroacoustic improvisation and it sounded very interesting so I had to check it out. The concert was quite something else. Tim and Vic made “music” from these self made and assembled instruments. The music was very abstract and atmospheric. One part of the performance it sounded like someone was snoring. It was caused from bowing strings against the drumhead or something. At another point in time is sounded like workers handling powertools and drills. The sounds were quite strange and annoying at points. They definitely evoked lost emotions and feelings.  I was always left in suspense because the performers heavily used silence. It was like silence was their melody. I wasn’t left in awe by the concert but I left contemplating on how I could take my music production to the next level by adding abstract sounds and effects. Tim and Vic played “music” that were more suited for films. Take a listen for yourself.

It’s the second week of school. I finally settled in. At least I think I’m settled. I remember the first couple of days I was absolutely homesick and depressed. Today I put my camera to use for the first time since I arrived in Davis and I feel even better now. It is something about photography that makes me forget about everything else. Sadly I think it is how I vent. I found a camera buddy! I’m looking forward to finding more or a gang to take over. I need to do homework. Stay tuned for more excitement.

Today my mom and I visited the California Academy of Sciences for the first time. It was free admission. We took Bart and Muni. We arrived there around 10am. The line wasn’t long. It was a fun trip yet tiring. CAS have opened for about a year. Last September I went on the grand opening day and the line was absolutely long and I didn’t get a chance to go in. Ever since I haven’t had the opportunity to attend. CAS is great place to take your family. I love the design of the buildings. Everything is so Eco-friendly. The planetarium showing of “Fragile Planet” is nothing special.  The four story Rainforest has free flying birds and butterflies. If you decided to attend on a Wachovia Wednesday. Be sure to arrive extra early or come around 2pm. They serve a wide variety of food at the cafe but it is pricey. My favorite exhibit is the Steinhart Aqaurium. I love the sea dragons.

“Do you shop at the “Flea Market?” Were the words that came  flying out of my elementary friend’s mouth. At the age of what seven or eight I was afraid to admit that half of my attire were purchased from the flea market. You should have seen my outfits back then. I thought I was the coolest. I wore quality brand name clothes like phat farm, rocawear and sean john. Maybe I’ll post photos of it soon. But yeah back to the flea market. You can find almost anything at the flea market. Well not everything. Last week I visited the Coliseum Flea Market aka Swap Meet. I haven’t been to there in like years. I remember buying chicharrones/duritos and drenching it with hot sauce and lime. I bought my N64 games like Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart,  I bought my first Gameboy color with Pokemon Red  for like $50. The Coliseum Flea Market is best for bikes and vintage items like vinyls and clothes. There are loads of cheap junk. You can buy a Mexican beer and walk around drinking it. There is Latin music everywhere you go.

Yesterday I visited the Sacramento State State Fair with some friends. It doesn’t really measure up to the buzz. Maybe because it was 100 degrees and I’m too old. I would give it 3 out of 5 stars.
The fair is best for eating and maybe concerts. If you do decide to go be prepared to sweat, eat, and drink gallons of water.

Last Monday my mother wanted to go to SF. My brother and I decided to tag along. It was perfect for me because I needed to get out. I’ve spent the past week mixing songs. I needed to  some quality time with my family. After Vinny told me some heart-rending stories of his brother’s dreadful experience in prison I felt an urge  to spend more time with my family before I head off to college. The trip was tiring yet fun. We took bart. Good thing the Bart strike was averted. I rode the Muni for the first time. It was quite chilly at North Beatch. All I wore was a thermal v-neck and jeans. I forgot how different SF temperature was than the East Bay.

I’m going to keep it real. I didn’t want to go this year. I was really iffy about it. It was a more of  a last minute thing. However I’m glad I did. I am rejuvenated and inspired. The retreat was real. Real people. Real emotions. Real fun. Real talk. All for a real God. I miss camp.

The owner moving his car.

IMG_9217-pola

Yesterday, while I was at the studio with Mike. We received a call from Mike’s mom. She said she got in a collision at Walgreens. We left our work to check out the scene. Our first thoughts were that it was a hit and run because the driver was not at the scene. However few minutes later the owner came out of walgreens and was shocked and confused how his car hit someone elses. It appears that he didn’t pull his e-brake  (stick-shift car) and it’s not his car but his friend’s. His car suffered a big dent while ours, just a scratch. We obtained his insurance policy and went from there.
Talk about failure. This should be on Fail Blog. I wouldn’t be surprise if he wrote something like this on http://www.fmylife.com/.
“Today I went to Walgreens with my little brother to buy some nail clippers. I came out and I saw my car, (well it’s actually my friend’s car) against another car. I forgot to pull the e-brake. FML”
